Volunteer Firefighters Needed

Becoming a Volunteer

The Diamond Springs El Dorado Fire Protection District
is recruiting Volunteer Firefighters

Thank you for your interest in becoming a Volunteer Firefighter for the Diamond Springs/El Dorado Fire Protection District. We are pleased that you are willing to serve your community with us. Becoming a volunteer will involve a significant commitment on your part, and we want you to understand the full requirements of membership in our organization. As a Volunteer Firefighter, you assume responsibilities for the protection of life and property.  Your position as a Volunteer Firefighter can be hazardous, but we trust it will also prove rewarding. We cannot stress how seriously you must take this obligation.

To initiate the process of becoming a Volunteer Firefighter, you must submit:

1.     An application, typed or printed clearly. Resumes may be included, and are encouraged, but not in place of the application.

You may also visit www.volunteerff.com and fill out an application on line to start the process. This will not replace the Districts application.

2.     Along with your application, provide a current CA Department of Motor Vehicles driver's license printout and a photocopy of your current driver's license, and any other relevant certifications (EMT, 1st Responder, FF1 CDL Class B License, CPR, etc.). You must have a valid California Driver's License to be a Volunteer Firefighter.

3.      If you meet our qualifications, and are selected to continue, you will be invited to participate in a written test, a physical ability test and an oral interview with a panel representing a cross section of Department personnel.

4.     Successful candidates will undergo a background check, medical examination and drug screening.

5.     If you do not have a valid CPR card (healthcare provider or equivalent) and a First Responder or Emergency Medical Technician 1 certificate, we will assist you in obtaining this prior to active service.  Certification must be maintained to remain active.

6.      Candidates who successfully complete the previous steps will attend the El Dorado County Training Officers Volunteer Firefighter Recruit Academy. This requirement may be waived if you possess a valid California Firefighter I certificate.

7.     To remain active as a Volunteer Firefighter, you must continue to meet Volunteer training / attendance requirements and Volunteer Firefighter Performance Standards, available at www.diamondfire.org.

As you can see, this process will require a lot of effort on your part. Please take the time to consider whether or not you can make the commitment that is required to maintain currency as a Volunteer Firefighter with our District.

On our website, you can view the Volunteer Job Description and find additional information about our organization and the responsibilities of a Volunteer Firefighter.

Once again, thanks for your interest!
