Training

The Diamond Springs-El Dorado Fire Protection District has a significant commitment to training and response preparedness, not only for our own District personnel, but also outside fire service and allied agency professional development.

Under “Class Schedules,” one may find a listing of courses that we host in our facility.  These include State Fire Training (both CFSTES and FSTEP) courses, CCAI & ICI Arson Investigation classes, CSTI Hazardous Materials instruction, Incident Command System courses and NWCG Wildland qualification, S-Series classes.  Although we provide courses for our own personnel and other local fire service organizations in the Sierra foothills, we frequently enroll personnel from throughout California, as well as students from outside the state.  Sometimes these courses provide college credit to students.  Tuition is required in advance, unless special arrangements are made with the District’s Training Officer.  We accept cash, personal check, agency check, Visa and Master Card.  Credit card orders are accepted over the phone.

Internally, regular monthly training assignments are published for both career and volunteer training assemblies.  Company training is accomplished on duty, as scheduled by the Shift Captain.  Current and forthcoming District training is published under “Assignments.

Occasionally, additional training events are scheduled on weekends, which may include live-fire structure training, driver training and EVOC courses, wildland preparedness exercises and other, assorted drills.  These may also be in cooperation with other fire agencies, as well as the El Dorado County Training Officers Association.

The District always has a significant commitment to the annual Volunteer Firefighter Recruit Academy, which is sponsored, in cooperation, with the various fire districts on the western slope of El Dorado County and led by the County Training Officers Association.

Questions pertaining to training opportunities and classes can be directed to Battalion Chief Ken Earle.
